PJ president called for unity in the fight against crime

The president of the Judiciary (PJ), Javier Arevaloargued that in order to fight crime more effectively, it is necessary to approve laws that strengthen the system of flagrancy, provide more resources to the institutions involved and proceed with the creation of more maximum security prisons.

“Legislative regulation is needed, laws that allow us to combat crime and not only in the repressive aspect; the issue is also economic, and new high-security penitentiary establishments need to be built to house criminals,” he said.

He also reiterated his request to the Legislative Branch to approve the law on flagrancy because, he said, “this will allow the creation of the flagrancy system and allow all those involved to participate in this fight against crime.”

In an implicit allusion to the disagreements that have occurred in recent weeks between representatives of the Executive Branch and the Public Prosecutor’s Office, Arévalo said that what is needed at this time is unity in the fight against crime.

“There should be no divorces between anyone, but unity, because otherwise we cannot have a coherent position and obtain favorable results,” he said.

These statements were made during the campaign “Sheltering our brothers from Ticlio Chico”, through which non-perishable food, clothing, coats, blankets, food vouchers and other items were delivered to the residents.

The president of the Supreme Court said that the Judiciary is waiting to be summoned to any meeting. “We are committed to the fight against crime through the flagrancy units, which is our main support and contribution,” he added.
