He Judiciary ordered on Wednesday, December 3, to provisionally suspend the election of delegates of the Ahora Nación party, of Alfonso López Chauwho would choose the organization’s candidates for the 2026 General Elections.
According to the Lima Times, the measure was issued through a resolution of the Superior Court of Justice of La Merced, in the Junín region. This was in response to a claim for protection filed by Geraldine Ponce Llanos and Nilton César Meza Franco, against the National Electoral Tribunal of the political group.
The resolution provides for “the provisional suspension of the legal and factual effects of the session minutes of the National Electoral Tribunal” of Ahora Nación, dated October 8, 2025. The party document included the “call for the election of delegates who will elect the candidates for the next general elections 2026 and its general electoral schedule – 2026 – delegate elections.”
“Suspend the internal electoral process of the Now Nation Party, as long as it could affect the appellants’ right to participate, elect and be elected,” the judicial document states, according to Lima Times.
Percy Coronado, Meza Franco’s lawyer, explained to the aforementioned media that Ahora Nación is being questioned for not having timely published the call and schedule for the internal elections, which prevented his sponsor from presenting his presidential candidacy. This situation was replicated with Geraldine Ponce, who aspired to run for the Chamber of Deputies.
“My person does not participate as a presidential candidate, despite having all the personal and political conditions to assume the role of pre-candidate and present my list; that is, they hid, they did not publish the electoral schedule; they did it in a malicious and intentional manner, all with the purpose of helping the only list,” Meza says in the lawsuit cited by Lima Times.
