PJ dictates 30 months of preventive detention against former mayor Juan Sotomayor

The Judiciary issued 30 months of preventive detention against the former mayor of Callao who has been investigated for the alleged commission of the crimes of criminal organization and generic active bribery to the detriment of the State.

The decision was adopted by the First Permanent Preparatory Investigation Court of the Superior Court of Justice of Callao, in a hearing directed by magistrate Sergio Martín Núñez Palacios.

The Public Ministry accuses Sotomayor of being the leader of a criminal network made up of 19 people, including municipal councilors, public officials, consultants hired for the location of services and “heads of neighborhoods.”

According to the fiscal hypothesis, the criminal organization would have coordinated the recruitment of people to be hired under the modality of ‘ghost workers’, to enter them on the payroll and control the collection of the positions.

The facts that are the subject of investigation are limited to the years 2019 and 2020, when the ex-burgomaster resigned from his position and launched his candidacy for regional governor of Callao, while maintaining control over the municipality of Callao.
