Pix rules change from November

Central Bank reports data leak of 8,000 BTG PIX keys

From November 1st, Pix will have stricter rules to guarantee the security of transactions and prevent fraud. Transfers of more than R$200 can only be made from a phone or computer previously registered by the financial institution’s customer, with a daily limit of R$1,000 for unregistered devices.Pix rules change from November

The Central Bank (BC) clarifies that the registration requirement will only apply to cell phones and computers that have never been used to make Pix. For current devices, nothing will change.

In addition to this new feature, financial institutions will have to improve security technologies. They must adopt fraud management solutions capable of identifying atypical Pix transactions or those incompatible with the customer profile, based on security information stored at the Central Bank.

Institutions will also have to inform customers, in a widely accessible electronic channel, of the necessary precautions to avoid fraud. They must also check, at least every six months, whether customers have fraud flags in the Central Bank’s systems.

The measures, informed the BC, will allow financial institutions to take specific actions in case of suspicious transactions or transactions outside the customer’s profile. They may increase the time for suspicious customers to initiate transactions and cautiously block incoming Pix. In case of strong suspicion or proof of fraud, institutions may terminate the relationship with the customer.

Automatic Pix

Recently, the BC announced that Pix Automatic will be launched on June 16, 2025. In development since the end of last year, the modality will facilitate recurring charges from companies, such as public service providers (water, electricity, telephone and gas) , companies in the financial sector, schools, colleges, gyms, condominiums, health plans, streaming services and subscription clubs.

Through Pix Automatic, the user will authorize automatic charging via their cell phone or computer. Resources will be debited periodically, without the need for authentication (such as passwords) for each operation. According to the BC, Pix Automático will also help reduce companies’ costs, making billing procedures cheaper and reducing defaults.
