The PIX transaction contest button is now available to users, starting this Wednesday (1st), with the purpose of facilitating the return of values for victims of fraud, blow and coercion.
Formally called Self -Service of the Special Return Mechanism (MED), the button can be triggered by the financial institution application with which the user has relationship.
Thus, the med, created in 2021, is made to be done 100% digital, without the need for interaction with the institution’s personal service center.
Changes in Pix rules were published in August by the Central Bank.
Contestation
According to the municipality, when contesting the transaction, the information is instantly passed on to the coup bank, which should block the resources in your account, if they exist, including partial amounts.
After blocking, both banks have up to seven days to analyze the contestation. If they agree that it is really a blow, the return is made directly to the victim’s account. The deadline for this return is up to eleven days after the defense.
The BC explained that the self -service of the Med will give more agility and speed to the process of contesting fraudulent transactions, “which increases the chance that there are still resources in the fraudster’s account to enable the return to the victim.”
The Med, as well as its contest button, does not apply to cases of commercial disagreements, regret and errors in the PIX shipping (such as switch typal error) or that involve third parties in good faith, for example. The BC points out that it is specific to fraud, blow and coercion.
Paths of Money
Another change in the med is that it will be possible to return the money from other accounts, not just that used in fraud. This feature will be available from November 23, optionally, and becomes mandatory in February next year.
Until then, the return of resources could be done only from the account originally used in the fraud. The problem is that the fraudsters generally remove the resources from the account that received the money and transfer to others. Thus, when the customer makes the complaint and asks for the return, the most common is that the account is already emptied.
With the improvements, the Med will identify possible paths of resources. This information will be shared with the participants involved in the transactions and will allow the return of resources after the defense.
The BC expects this to increase the identification of accounts used for fraud and the return of resources, discouraging fraud. According to the bank, sharing this information will also prevent the use of these accounts for new fraud.
