Pix breaks record and exceeds 227 million transactions in one day

The Central Bank’s (BC) instant transfer system, Pix, broke a new record last Friday (6). For the first time, the modality surpassed the mark of 227 million transactions in 24 hours.Pix breaks record and exceeds 227 million transactions in one day

On the 6th alone, 227.4 million transfers were made via Pix to end users. The previous daily record had been set on July 5, with 224.2 million transactions.

“The numbers are yet another demonstration of the importance of Pix as a public digital infrastructure for promoting financial inclusion, innovation and competition in the provision of payment services in Brazil,” the BC said in a statement.

Volume handled

In terms of value, R$118.418 billion was moved last Friday. The amount is the second largest in history for a single day, only losing out to the R$119.429 billion moved on July 5.

Created in November 2020, Pix had accumulated 168.15 million users by the end of August, according to the most recent monthly statistics. Of this total, 153.11 million were individuals and 15.04 million were legal entities. In July, according to the most recent consolidated data, the system surpassed the mark of R$2.415 trillion in transactions.
