The Interior Minister arrived yesterday morning at the facilities of the Public Order and Security Division (Divopus) in Sullana, where he presented a contingent of 50 police officers from the Special Response Group against Organized Crime (GRECCO) who will join in the fight against extortion and contract killings.
During the ceremony, the press was not allowed access, as they gathered outside the police headquarters, and the minister did not make any statements.
When Santiváñez was at the ceremony, the mother of businessman Eduardo Alexis Mogollón Vargas (35), who was shot dead on December 2 of last year, arrived and shouted for justice outside the Divopus on the extension of José de Lama Avenue, along with other residents.
“I came here to ask for justice for my son. I also ask the minister to restore order here in the National Police,” said Teresa Vargas Purizaca.
Even the transporters who were circulating stopped and demanded Santiváñez’s resignation.
“We want the Minister (of the Interior), Dina Boluarte, and the congressmen to leave because they are not doing anything for (citizen) security in the city,” he said.
As the National Police trucks were leaving the police headquarters along El Alto Street, the businessman’s relatives and other residents shouted and even hit the vehicles.
“We demand justice for all the innocent people who have been killed in Sullana,” said Mogollón’s mother. While another resident shouted: “(Minister) capture (Vladimir) Cerrón. Make a gesture of good will for the country. Capture that criminal,” he said, mortified. Although Minister Santiváñez was not in those vehicles.
Moments before the ceremony, the Minister of the Interior, Juan Santiváñez, presented the 50 police officers of the Grecco Group at the DIVOPUS. There he indicated that said brigade will remain for 60 days in Sullana and will carry out coordinated work with the Special Criminal Investigation Unit to capture and dismantle criminal organizations.
“As a central government, we could not remain indifferent to this emergency situation. We cannot allow organized crime to prevail in Sullana. That is why the presence had to be of specialized units such as the GRECCO brigade and specialized personnel from the Criminal Investigation Division,” said Minister Santiváñez.
