Nine guilds of artisanal fishermen from the region protested outside the regional government to demand the ddeclaration of emergency of the sectorr due to the pollution of the Peruvian sea and the oil spill, as well as the presence of Chinese ships.
The president of the Shipowners Association of the province of Sechura, Carlos Purizaca Pazos, pointed out that the Central Government has been creating laws that benefit large companies, but not artisanal fishing, despite the fact that thousands of families make a living from this fishing activity. . For this reason, they demand the declaration of a state of emergency for this sector.
In each union there are more than 800 artisanal fishermen who will be affected if the oil spill, the entry of Chinese ships and the approval of laws continue.
“Negotiations continue (with oil companies), but we are not going to allow the oil wells to be installed because it is pollution,” said Purizaca Pazos.

For his part, the president of the Cabo Blanco Artisanal Fishermen’s Association, Jesús Yenque, stated that the spills in the Grau Sea are causing fish to die or migrate south, a situation that affects seafarers.
“We come because we need the regional government to listen to our needs and we are the most affected. Cabo Blanco, Los Órganos, El Ñuro, we are fighting for the manta ray species and we call on the regional government not to support it. Cabo Blanco has 48 oil wells within 5 miles and within the natural reef banks,” said Yenque.
Likewise, he referred to the presence of Chinese ships where he warned that this increases the needs for the fishermen of Cabo Blanco and other sectors, causing thousands of families to remain in poverty due to lack of employment.
