The Cuban reliever joan lopez declined the invitation to be part of the Cuban team with a view to the World Classic. The right-hander, a native of the Isle of Youth, was one of the 12 players who has played at the highest level (Major Leagues) and who was included in the national preselection.
The news was announced by the Cuban Baseball Federation (FCB) on January 22, through its Twitter account.
“Yoan López informed us that he thanks, but declines the call to the Cuban team to the V World Baseball Classic. We respect his willingness to focus on issues surrounding his signing with the Yomiuri Giants. Thanks for wishing us success. Other opportunities will come ”, can be read in a post shared today and that does not give more details.

On November 14, the FCB announced the first three players called up by the country to represent Cuba in the V World Baseball Classic. Yoan was one of the first to say yes. Really, it was found out later that he contacted the FCB, and not the other way around, to express his wish to wear the four-letter shirt.
Since his Major League debut in 2018, Yoan López played for four seasons. The balance that he showed in his performance was 2-8 and a save, as well as 82 strikeouts in 101.2 innings of work.
Lopez was by orlast with the New York Mets and although his results in recent years have not been the best, he was a key card for the island’s Bullpen. The athlete this winter signed in the japanese baseball with the Giants of Yomiuri.
