“No one has helped me”
In a hotel in Palenque, the fourth younger brother of the president acknowledges that the money given by David León was to “support the movement with the issue of petty expenses, such as gasoline,” but denies that he has committed a crime with this. “It’s more of a foul,” he says.
With a hard expression, hand movements and a strong and slow voice, Pío assures that neither his brother the president nor any other authority has helped him stop his case and proof of this, he insists, is that he had to seek protection to force the FGR to investigate and rule.

On October 8, 2020, Pío addressed his statement on the subject to Héctor Sánchez Zaldívar, agent of the Public Ministry of the Special Prosecutor for Electoral Crimes (formerly Fepade). In four pages, Pío did not speak about the accusations for allegedly receiving illicit financing for political campaigns from his brother, his defense focused on pointing out that the intervention of private communications cannot be granted probative value and requested that the fact be investigated. “I am the most interested in thoroughly investigating the issue and clarifying the facts. So interested that I even went to the Public Prosecutor’s Office and told him: ‘Look, I’ll leave you my phone number, if you require and need any additional information, here I am, I want to be a helper and a facilitator in your research project. Find me!’ Until now, no one has spoken to me,” he explains over a sugar-free cola.
Have you talked to your brother about the videos?
-Never.
How long has it been since you talked to him?
—Since 2018, when our movement triumphed, we agreed that it was better to keep our distance.
But from the videos, not even a call?
-Any. Only the Constitution and the laws have helped me, my lawyer and my small and true family that is my wife and my son, no one else. Why should I be resorting to a judge for the FGR to react? It has been the opposite, everything has been media.
