Madrid Spain.- The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, expressed his discontent after the majority of Chileans voted NO this Sunday to the option of accepting the new Magna Carta, backed by his colleague, President Gabriel Boric.

For his part, after the result, Gabriel Boric said that “the decision of Chilean men and women requires institutions and politicians to work for a proposal that unites and represents everyone.”
“The people of Chile have spoken and they have done so loudly, clearly. Chilean men and women have demanded a new opportunity to meet and we must live up to this call. I promise to do everything on my part to build, together with Congress and civil society, a new constituent itinerary,” he added.
This September 4, Chileans were summoned to a mandatory plebiscite that sought to approve a new political constitution, which would replace the current one, drafted in 1980, at the time of the dictatorship of General Augusto Pinochet, and was prepared by the Constitutional Convention arising from the plebiscite October 2020 (when the Yes to the constitutional reform had 78% support), which in turn was a consequence of the wave of violent protests in the country and their repression.
This Sunday, the counting of more than 90% of the votes resulted in an overwhelming rejection of the constitutional proposal: 62.2% of voters opposed the proposal. After knowing the result, thousands of citizens took to the streets to celebrate.
