Independent Deputies-PPD are compiling background information to present a Special Investigative Commission, since according to an investigation carried out by Ciper, during the first government of former President Sebastián Piñera, Corfo contributed resources to three mining projects linked to the Piñera Morel family: Pampa Camarones (Arica), Ciclón Exploradora (Taltal) and Don Gabriel, through two Private Investment Funds (FIP), which are Esperanza and Co Inversión Minería Activa Tres.
Specifically, on March 13, 2013, Corfo opened a line of financing that allowed the development of these mining projects. That day, a line of credit was granted to the FIP Minería Activa for more than US$23 million. Although the family of the former President does not participate in the FIP Minería Activa Tres, which received public resources, it does participate, through the Esperanza and Co Inversión Minería Activa Tres funds, in the three projects that were financed with the money from the Corfo.

“Given the seriousness of the background exposed in the Ciper report, it seems to us that the prudent thing is to carefully analyze said information and see the origin of constituting a Special Investigative Commission of the Chamber of Deputies and Deputies, to see if there are indeed public funds. that would have served to start mining projects that would eventually have been beneficiaries of the Piñera family,” said deputy Jaime Araya.
The parliamentarian added that “it seems to us that it would be very unfortunate if that were the case, but we want to act responsibly, and from that point of view it seems to us that it is necessary to review the background in greater depth in order to see if a Special Investigative Commission is appropriate. , and if there were merit for it, we will have no problem doing it”.
For his part, deputy Cristián Tapia, who is deputy head of the PPD-Independents Caucus and member of the Mining Commission, stated that “the background is very serious, and an investigative commission is necessary to get to the bottom of this situation that all lights see that there are black hands involved in this business. The resources of the State must go to the people who need it, to the small miners, pirquineros, see health issues, increase inspections and have more officials in Sernageomin, but not so that the families of the Chilean super-millionaires continue taking advantage of the State” .
“We hope to have the support because this is a new Congress, and I believe that we are all for transparency. If the Longueira fishing law has already been approved by the Chamber, logically here we all have to join in making an in-depth investigation with all the elements that Ciper has delivered,” said Deputy Tapia.
Likewise, the deputy Marta González, affirmed that “it seems to us of the utmost importance to be able to investigate these facts, since this type of act, where public money is used to benefit private companies, large economic groups, and even more where it involves the Presidency of the Republic, are highly questioned and repudiated by the citizenry”.
“I think it is important to investigate especially in this period where citizens demand greater social rights, improvements in housing, in education, and to finance all of this, resources are needed, so the State cannot in any case continue to have these unfortunate events. and to have a lax behavior when investigating these facts”, concluded the legislator.
