Santo Domingo.- The lieutenant colonel who died this Wednesday when the helicopter he was piloting crashed in the San Cristóbal province, was heading to Haiti, according to a report by the authorities, which does not detail the reason for the trip to that troubled country.
The Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC) reported, on Wednesday afternoon, that the plane, piloted by Negarit María Espaillat, 55, left El Higuero airport, but did not offer details about the reason for the trip or if it had permission for said journey.
The pilot was traveling alone, according to the report of the Dominican authorities.
The helicopter, a Bell 206, HI951, crashed between two mountains in the Los Naranjos rural community, in the Los Cacaos municipal district, near the Higüey dam, in the San Cristóbal province, in the south of the country.

The Aviation Accident Investigation Commission (CIAA), led by pilot General Emmanuel Soufront, began the investigation as soon as the incident was reported.
