Pilot survives forced landing in Sancti Spíritus

a pilot of Sancti Spiritus survived the forced landing of his aircraft in that central Cuban province, according to review the local newspaper Escambray.

The man, named Léster Pérez Sánchez, was piloting an M-18 plane —a model popularly known as a Dromedario— when he “rushed to the ground from a considerable height while he was on his own work duties,” the publication narrates.

The fall of the ship was due to “a presumable technical damage to the Dromedary’s engine,” the outlet notes.

The pilot, a native of Cienfuegos and a resident of Sancti Spíritus for more than 30 years, had to resort to all his skills and experience to manage to master the plane and escape unharmed in the forced landing, which occurred in the municipality of La Sierpe in the Spirit of Spirit.

According to what he himself told the first secretary of the Communist Party in the province, Deivy Pérez Martín, he came to gain awareness of the danger already experienced on land.

“I didn’t feel afraid when I fell, I was already scared on the ground, but ready for the fight,” he said, quoted by Escambray.

According to the information, Léster is an experienced pilot of the Base Business Unit subordinated to the National Air Services Company (ENSA), based in Sancti Spíritus.

In addition to providing services as a pilot to the Sur del Jíbaro rice company, in La Sierpe, he has participated in the extinction of forest fires, such as the one that occurred weeks ago in Holguín, and also in the one that affected the Supertanker Base in Matanzas.

Regarding the aircraft, Ernesto Cuéllar, director of the Spiritus air base, commented to Escambray that “it is very likely that the Dromedary was also saved from its spectacular fall because the damage does not seem to be significant.”

According to the newspaper, at the end of his note “an investigation team was transferred to the scene of the accident, in order to determine the causes of the accident.”
