This December 7, the traditional pilgrimage to the Virgin of Cotoca takes place, patron saint of the Bolivian East, with thousands of faithful walking towards the sanctuary to thank favors and ask for new blessings. The massive participation has generated traffic congestion in the streets that connect with Virgen de Cotoca Avenue, affecting the breathability of citizens.
To facilitate the passage of pilgrims, dFrom 5:00 p.m. this Saturday, the lane of Virgen de Cotoca Avenue was closed that connects the municipality of the same name with the capital of Santa Cruz, while the opposite lane was enabled only for light vehicles.
In addition, the Mayor’s Office of Santa Cruz de la Sierra, in coordination with the Police, has established a road section between Brasil Avenue and Virgen de Cotoca Avenue, allowing walkers to start their journey from the fourth ring.
For his part, Martín Guzmán, commander of the Police in Cotoca, reported on EL DEBER Radio that, as part of the security operation This Saturday, 350 uniformed personnel, 160 Transit agents and 130 police officers from the provincial command will be deployed to guarantee order in the walk from the 4th ring of Santa Cruz de la Sierra to Cotoca.
This year, the participation of between 350,000 and 500,000 pilgrims who will travel more than 20 kilometers motivated by their requests, according to Father Rubén Elvis, parish priest of the sanctuary. Additionally, for the first time, devotees will be able to visit the Museum of Sacred Mantles of the Virgin of Cotoca.
The second pilgrimage will take place on Friday the 13th and Saturday the 14th of December due to the judicial elections scheduled for Sunday the 15th.
