Pieta Cordoba, who is in poor health and confined to a clinic in the city of Medellin, took the oath as the new senator of the Republic of the coalition of Historic Pact.
The President of Congress, Roy Barrerastraveled to the capital of Antioquia where he took an oath to Córdoba in the care center.
“In compliance with the Constitution and the Law and at the request of her children, I have sworn in the senator-elect Piedad Córdoba in her place of hospitalization. Political differences will in no case be a reason to deny constitutional and legal rights. Guarantees for all”, revealed Barreras.

The legislator spent a few days in the Intensive Care Unit of the El Rosario clinic, after presenting complications, apparently due to a urinary infection that could later be controlled. After a few days, Córdoba managed to get out of the ICU and is in general hospitalization receiving medical care.
On July 19, one day before the start of sessions in the Congress of the Republic, the political leader had recognized that these were not good times for her.
“I feel a little better but there is still no opinion of what I suffer from. I am a person used to adversity, I am emboldened by the headwind. But if I speak frankly, these are not good times. Thank you very much for all the messages of support”, he had stated.
The law gives congressmen who were elected in the last legislative elections a deadline of eight days after the installation of the ordinary sessions, since otherwise they are exposed to a loss of investiture, also called ‘political death’.
Taking office, in this case before the president of the Senate, Roy Barreras, gives her the opportunity to enjoy the benefits she has as a parliamentarian, including the payment of her salary. However, the leader will not attend the sessions for now while she is convalescing.
