Stores in different places in Caracas joined the Black Friday discounts. Several businesses extended their sales for an entire week or joined Cyber Monday for December 2
For a week now, different stores throughout Caracas announced their Black Friday discounts. In shopping centers such as El Sambil Chacao and La Candelaria, San Ignacio and CCCT, most stores joined the trend, with discounts of between 10% and 70%, although in many, the discounts were only on selected merchandise.
The president of the Venezuelan Chamber of Shopping Centers (Cavececo)Claudia Itriago, pointed out this Friday that 80 of the 130 affiliated shopping centers throughout the country joined the sales day. “The stores that have the most movements are those of technology, footwear, clothing and toys.”
Although the stores opened at 10 am this Friday, November 29, and a greater influx was observed than on common days in the shopping centers, there were not as many buyers as in previous years. During a tour of SuchWhich in the commercial establishments to find out the development of the sales day, it was evident that many stores were empty, and those that did not have a discount seemed invisible to visitors.
By 2023, Black Friday sales had decreased 19.6% compared to 2022. This year 2024, fewer discounts and fewer people buying were noted, although there is still the rest of the weekend to take advantage of the discounts. season.
Other stores, mainly clothing and footwear, had long lines to enter and pay for the products. “This is crazy,” said Ana Guerra, who made her purchases at the Zara store in Sambil Chacao, the line to pay inside the store was more than 50 people in line.
In addition, there were many complaints on social networks about long lines and congestion in various areas of the capital, mainly in Chacao.
Stores such as Daka, Multimax and Damascus had discounts, mainly on household appliances, in all their locations in the capital. Multimax held a night sale on Thursday the 28th, in which they reported a large number of sales. But on the afternoon of the 29th at the Daka headquarters in Chacao, Multimax in Plaza Venezuela, Damasco del CCCT and Las Mercedes there were not many people shopping and those who came were for specific products whose sales they already knew about.
“I came for this television that is on discount, I could only buy that,” said a shopper to SuchWhich at the Damascus headquarters in the Las Mercedes urbanization.
This year, the use of Cashea, the installment payment application, stood out in the purchase of products and with offers within the same application. «I saw the offers for Cashea and they were very tempting, but I can’t buy anything, so I didn’t go into much detail,” commented a young man outside the Ciudad Tamanaco Shopping Center.
Judith Trasladino, a 22-year-old student, visited many shopping centers and said that, for the most part, she observed “very basic (low) discounts between 10% and 15%,” but that she saw others that had great sales that motivated her to buy. “In Balú I got clothes for a dollar,” he added.
Throughout the month, SuchWhich carried out a price check, garments that in mid-October you could see at $40 and $50 dollars, on the 29th of noIn November you could get them for half price at $20 or $25 dollars. At Beco, for example, sweaters that cost $70 were $60 and flannels were $30, $20 and $15, depending on the brand. At Balú, items that could cost between $35 and $40 were available for less than $30.
For its part, shoes that in many stores are $20 or more could be seen between $8, $12 or less than $25. And appliances could be found with discounts of up to $100 depending on the product to be purchased. In Daka, Air Fryers were down about $40 from their original price.
Valentina Barreto, who bought in a virtual store commented that “in general, a little congestion or delay was noticed in the customer service channels due to the number of users interested in asking for information about the offers or to buy”, which made the purchasing process a little slow on this Friday, something that does not happen on other dates.
The trend was joined by online stores that offered discounts on their products and free delivery; Apps like Cashea and Yummy that had up to 40% off; and food establishments such as Arturos, KFC, McDonald’s, Burger King and Plan B, with discounts on selected combos.

What is Black Friday
Black Friday is a commercial event celebrated on the first Friday after Thanksgiving in the United States. The main thing is the large number of discounts and promotions on all types of products. This day has been celebrated since the 1950s and, although it did not initially have that name, it became popular in the 1970s.
For years, this American event has gone global and today, Black Friday is a commercial event of great importance worldwide.
In Venezuela, it began to be celebrated in 2019 as an opportunity to increase sales and move the commercial sector before Christmas, kicking off the Christmas shopping season.
Although the discounts officially began this November 29, Many started the so-called Black Week or Black Days from Monday, November 25. Even brands like Pawer joined Cyber Monday, a similar holiday celebrated every Monday following Thanksgiving aimed solely at digital purchases.
Salespeople from different commercial premises told TalWhich that in the early hours of Friday few buyers approached, “many just looked at the merchandise and continued,” but that as the day went by the day improved. Others commented that until midday they had not had good sales, while managers of several stores reported good sales since Black Week began.
Several of the stores will extend the sales on their merchandise until December 2 and 5, hoping to make up for the year in these sales and the other holiday purchases.
But many other stores, which did not join Black Friday, decided to offer discounts for much longer to encourage purchases for the remainder of the year.
