This morning, the former premier Alberto Otarola admitted having been aware of the surgical procedure that the president underwent Dina Boluarte which would have made her absent from her duties between June 29 and July 10, 2023.
Otárola explained that the intervention was made on the president’s nose, detailing that a reduction in the nasal passages.
According to the former Chief of Staff, the president did not neglect her duties as president during her post-operative period. However, he could not respond when asked whether or not there was an official document with which Boluarte legally requested a medical break.
What is being questioned is not the president’s physical change, since everyone has the right to have an aesthetic repair if they consider it necessary.
What generates conflict is the fact that there is no evidence of a legal medical break and the absence that the government suffered during Dina Boluarte’s recovery after the intervention she underwent.
In the session of the Oversight Commission this Tuesday, Mario Cabanithe surgeon who would have operated on Boluarte, did not appear to testify. He was invited to participate and tell his version. In addition, he was expected to confirm and explain the type of modification that would have been made to the head of state’s face.
What is the reduction of the nasal passages?
Nostril reduction is a rhinoplasty technique that seeks to reduce the width and length of the nose, eliminating a small wedge of lateral skin. It is a minimally invasive procedure that generally lasts about 30 minutes. Although it is not common to do it in isolation, it is often part of a more complete rhinoplasty.
To reduce the width of the nose, the size of the nasal wings is generally reduced to a more harmonious proportion. This intervention is quick and easy to perform. A wedge-shaped incision (about 5 millimeters) is made in the groove between the nasal wing and the cheek. By making the cut in this area, the scar is hidden and practically invisible, according to doctor Luis Salvadó.
This procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia with sedation to ensure patient comfort. As it is an outpatient procedure, the patient can return home after surgery. In addition, the stitches are resorbable and do not need to be removed, as they dissolve naturally in a few 7-8 days, a period of time similar to what Boluarte would have taken for his recovery.
