The presidential candidate Phillip Butters resigned his militancy within the Avanza País party. In a letter addressed to Aldo Fabrizio Borrero Rojas, president of the political group, he announced his definitive separation. With this decision, his aspiration to the Presidency of the Republic falls and leaves the way clear to his internal opponent César Combina.
Everything indicates that he will resume his journalistic duties, as specified in his letter, in which he indicated that “he will continue with his professional work.” As for the reasons, Butters only indicated that his retirement was for political and personal purposes.

Phillip Butters speaks out
Through a video, the television host specified that the main reason for his resignation is the lack of organization on the part of the party. “My intention has always been to organize in an organized manner the possibility of a presidential candidacy and to do so requires having structure, organization, order, discipline and financing; issues that we have not been able to consolidate,” Butters said.
Likewise, he specified that the Avanza País party should not count on the designation of presidential candidate César Combina. “When I see Mr. Combina arrive at the party, I speak directly with Mr. Borrego and let him know that he has a constitutional concession for collusion and money laundering, from the time when Mr. Combina was a congressman for Alliance for Progress.”
César Combia responds to Phillip Butters
Faced with the television host’s accusations, the politician Combina did not hesitate to respond: “We had already warned of Butters’ strategy, which was to betray the party. That is why we registered our candidacy to confront his inaction, poor coordination and arrogance.”
He added that given Butters’ departure from Avanza País, he hopes that his presidential candidacy will be made official on Sunday the 7th. “Our election must be democratic and guarantee the passage of the electoral fence. My commitment to members and pre-candidates for deputies and senators remains: Together we can save Avanza Pais,” he expressed.
