The Philadelphia Union, leader of the Eastern Conference in the MLS, achieved a new victory this Saturday of prestige by beating the New York Red Bulls while Austin, second in the West, fell resoundingly on their visit to Nashville.

Consolidated as the fashionable team in MLS in recent weeks, The Philadelphia team beat the New York Red Bulls 0-2.another team with significant aspirations in the East.

Mikael Uhre and Dániel Gazdag scored the two Philadelphia Union goals in the second half while the New York team finished with ten players due to the expulsion of Dru Yearwood already in the last stages of the game.

This is the fourth consecutive victory for the Philadelphia Union, which came from chaining three anthological goals: 0-6 at DC United, 6-0 at Colorado Rapids and 4-1 at Atlanta United.

In the fight to win the MLS Supporters’ Shield, which rewards the best team in the regular season in both conferences, the Philadelphia Union now has 60 points with 30 games played while Carlos Vela’s LAFC has 57 but with 28 games played (on Sunday they play against Real Salt Lake).

In the West, Austin made a big splash last week with a 4-1 win against LAFCbut since then it has chained two straight defeats that take it away from the conference lead, the last one this Saturday 3-0 against Nashville.

Hany Mukhtar, who scored a hat-trick in the previous match, had two goals for Nashville, Walker Zimmerman scored another and Austin also ended up with a player down after Moussa Djitté was sent off.

Saturday’s other standout thrashing was Dallas’ 3-0 win at Minnesota United, a thrashing that was particularly spectacular because all three of its goals came in the space of five minutes.

In the 55th minute Michael Boxall got into his own goal, in the 56th minute the Argentinian Alan Velasco scored with a tight shot from the edge of the box and in the 58th minute the Colombian-American Jesús Ferreira headed it.

In the other two games of the day, Columbus Crew and Chicago Fire drew goalless and Cincinnati, with a goal from Argentina’s Luciano Acosta, beat Charlotte 2-0
