The Universal Guaranteed Pension (PGU) is a benefit that seeks to improve the income of older people in Chile, providing a monthly amount that complements the base pensions. Although the main requirement to access this benefit is to be at least 65 years old, there is the possibility of applying before reaching this age, which facilitates the process to receive payments in a timely manner.
Early application: how does it work?
Although PGU payments begin at age 65, you can start applying at age 64 and 9 months. This system allows the procedure to be completely managed before reaching the minimum age, ensuring that the payments begin immediately upon reaching age 65. This eliminates the risk of delays and facilitates a smoother transition to receiving your pension.
Requirements to be a beneficiary of the PGU
In addition to age, there are other criteria that must be met to access the PGU. These are:
Socioeconomic belonging
- Not being in the richest 10% of the population, which is determined by the Pension Targeting Score (PFP). This score considers information from the Social Household Registry (RSH), as well as the income and needs of the family group.
Residence in Chile
- Have lived in Chile for at least 20 years since the age of 20, continuously or discontinuously.
- Have a minimum of four years of residence in the last five years prior to the application date.
How to apply?
There are two main options to apply for the PGU:
Online through ChileAtiende
Enter the ChileAtiende portal, write your RUT and date of birth, and click on “consult”. If you meet the requirements, the application option will be enabled. To complete this procedure, you will need your Unique Code.
Via telephone
Call 101, the ChileAtiende call center number, where an executive will assist you in the process of postulation.
Both alternatives are accessible and are designed to simplify the process, even for those less familiar with digital tools.
PGU amounts: how much will you receive?
The monthly amount of the PGU varies according to the beneficiary’s base pension:
- If your base pension is equal to or less than $729,764, you will receive the full amount of the PGU, which amounts to $214,296 per month.
- If your base pension is between $729,765 and $1,158,355, the PGU amount will be less than $214,296 and will be calculated proportionally.
