The Social Security Institute (IPS) has launched a new campaign called “Ask for your PGU”, designed to encourage adults over 65 years of age to request the Universal Guaranteed Pension (PGU). This monthly subsidy, which currently amounts to $214,296, seeks to offer significant economic support to thousands of older Chileans who have not yet accessed this benefit.
More than 2 million beneficiaries and a call for new applicants
Thanks to the efforts of the IPS, the PGU It already benefits more than 2 million 250 thousand people in Chile. However, this subsidy requires an active application, and the IPS is making a special call for older people, as well as those who have experienced changes in their socioeconomic situation, to review whether they meet the requirements. According to the national director of the IPS, Juan José Cárcamo, many people may think that they are not eligible due to their place of residence or because they receive another pension, but he insists that everyone consult.
How to check if you are entitled to the PGU
To facilitate access to information, the IPS has enabled various platforms. Those interested can go to the ChileAtiende branches distributed throughout the country or visit the official website www.chileatiende.cl, where a video service system is also available. In addition, queries can be made through Call Center 101 or through ChileAtiende’s social networks on X, Facebook and Instagram. These options ensure that people, regardless of their location, can receive quick and direct guidance.
Requirements to access the PGU
To be a beneficiary of the Universal Guaranteed Pensionit is necessary to comply with the following requirements established by the IPS:
- Age: Be 65 years old or older.
- Residency in Chile: Having resided in the country for at least 20 years since the age of 20, and at least 4 of the last 5 years before requesting the benefit.
- Family group: Not belonging to the richest 10% of the population.
- Base pension: Have a base pension less than the maximum amount defined for this benefit.
Pensioners from Dipreca and Capredena cannot access the PGU. However, those who are still working or have postponed their retirement can apply if they meet the other requirements. It is also mandatory to be registered in the Social Household Registry.
