The Federal Police (PF) is carrying out an operation, this Friday (28), to investigate alleged deviations in the paving of highways financed by parliamentary amendments. The investigation estimates that the loss to public coffers was R$22 million.
The PF took to the streets to execute 11 search and seizure warrants issued by the Federal Supreme Court (STF), nine in Fortaleza (CE) and two in Natal (RN). Targets of the investigation are contracts from the National Department of Works Against Drought (DNOCS).
The Comptroller General of the Union (CGU) also participates in the action dubbed Fake Roadwhich is false highway in English. The PF reported that the targets are public servants and representatives of private companies.
The operation also includes requests for judicial freezing of assets and valuables, unavailability of properties and vehicles, personal and vehicle searches, as well as the breaking of bank, tax, telephone and telematic confidentiality of those being investigated.
THE Brazil Agency contacted DNOCS to comment on the operation, but did not receive a response until the publication of this report.
Parliamentary amendments
So far, there is no information about deputies and senators being investigated. The so-called parliamentary amendments are funds from the public budget allocated by parliamentarians for certain public policies.
In recent years, parliamentary amendments have been the target of several investigations by the PF and the CGU.
At the end of August, STF minister Flávio Dino ordered the PF to investigate 964 individual amendments from special transfer parliamentarians, called “Pix amendments”, which total R$694 million.
Parliamentary amendments have been the target of billion-dollar blocks. In December 2024, Dino suspended the payment of R$4.2 billion in amendments due to suspected irregularities.
