PF manifests "concern" with changes from the rapporteur in PL Antifaction

THE Federal Police released a note this Monday (10) in which they expressed “concern” about the changes made by deputy Guilherme Derrite (PP-SP) in the Anti-Faction bill (PL)which was forwarded by the federal government and is being processed in the National Congress. Derrite is the rapporteur of the proposal in the Chamber of Deputies. PF manifests "concern" with changes from the rapporteur in PL Antifaction

In the public note, the PF says that the changes threaten and bring a “real risk of weakening the fight against organized crime”.

“The original proposal, forwarded by the Government of Brazil, aims to toughen the fight against crime and strengthen the institutions responsible for combating criminal organizations. However, the text under discussion in Parliament threatens this purpose by introducing structural changes that compromise the public interest”, says the statement.

“The Federal Police is following with concern the changes produced by the report on the Anti-Faction Bill”, he adds.

In an opinion, deputy Guilherme Derrite joint investigations by the Federal Police with state forces into crimes related to criminal factions are subject to a formal request from the governor.

For the PF, the requirement may restrict the scope of operations.

“This change, combined with the suppression of the powers of the Federal Police, compromises the scope and results of investigations, representing a real setback in the fight against crimes committed by criminal organizations, such as corruption, drug trafficking, embezzlement of public resources, human trafficking, among others”, he says.

The police cite that, in August, the largest operation against organized crime in the country was carried out. At the time, the police action, launched in São Paulo, revealed that the First Command of the Capital (PCC) used gas stations, motels and shell companies to launder money in a billion-dollar scheme.

“According to the rules proposed in the report under discussion, operations like this would be under threat of not taking place or having their effects severely limited”, he states.

THE The project is on the Chamber’s voting agenda this Tuesday (11).
