The warrants were issued by the Federal Supreme Court (STF), on behalf of the Attorney General’s Office (PGR).

In addition to the searches, precautionary measures were determined, including:

  • monitoring by electronic ankle bracelet;
  • removal from public service;
  • the cancellation of passports and the ban on leaving the country.

Investigation

In a press release, the IRS clarifies that the search operations carried out by the Federal Police were based on information provided by the IRS itself.

In addition to the investigation being processed by the Supreme Court, the IRS informs that there is a prior investigation in partnership with the Federal Police and that the results will be released in due course.

The tax authorities also detailed the progress of investigations targeting improper access to data on Supreme Court ministers and their families:

  • On January 11, the Internal Revenue Service opened an internal procedure motivated by news published in the press.
  • The following day, January 12, the STF formalized a request for a complete audit of the Revenue systems to identify suspicious accesses to the data of magistrates and other taxpayers carried out over the last three years.

Tracking

The Federal Revenue Service says it has intensified control of profiles that access taxpayer data since 2023.

The agency emphasized that its systems allow full monitoring of access and any misuse is detectable, auditable and subject to administrative and criminal punishment.

“The Brazilian Federal Revenue does not tolerate deviations, especially those related to tax secrecy, a basic pillar of the tax system”, reaffirmed the Federal Revenue.

The Revenue explains that the internal audit of its systems is ongoing and that the deviations already detected were preliminarily informed to the rapporteur of the STF investigation, Minister Alexandre de Moraes.

As part of the IRS investigations, seven disciplinary proceedings were concluded, resulting in three dismissals.
