The Federal Police (PF) found on Jair Bolsonaro’s cell phone a document in which the former president considered the possibility of asking the political asylum to the president of Argentina, Javier Milei.
The document was found on the former president’s device, which last month was the target of a PF operation determined by Minister Alexandre de Moraes in the inquiry that investigates the sanctions of the United States against Brazil.
According to the investigations, the Document has 33 pages and has been saved on the device since 2024when Bolsonaro was accused of another operation, intended to determine the charges of the coup plot.
“At first, I must say that I am in my country of origin persecuted for reasons and essentially political offenses. In the context of such persecution, I was recently the target of several precautionary measures,” says an excerpt from the asylum request.
On Wednesday (20), earlier, Bolsonaro and Deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) were indicted for the crimes of coercion crimes in the course of the process and attempted abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law.
The decision was made after the PF concluded investigations into Eduardo’s performance with US President Donald Trump’s government to promote retaliation measures against the Brazilian government and ministers of the Supreme. In March this year, Eduardo asked for a parliamentary mandate license and went to live in the United States on the grounds of political persecution.
In the current process, the former president is investigated for sending resources, via Pix, to pay for his child’s stay abroad.
Bolsonaro is also a defendant in the criminal plot’s criminal action in the Supreme.
Travel to Argentina
According to PF, Bolsonaro traveled to participate in Milei’s inauguration after holding the last edition of the asylum document on his cell phone. The edition took place on December 5, 2023. The trip took place from December 7 to 11.
According to investigations, the document could be used to enable the Bolsonaro escape.
“The informative elements found, therefore, indicate that former President Jair Bolsonaro had in his possession document that would enable his evasion of Brazil towards the Argentine Republic, notably after the investigation by the Federal Police with the identification of materiality and criminal authority regarding the crimes of violent abolition of the democratic rule of law by criminal organization,” the PF said.
