Federal Police (PF) delegates expressed concern about the risks that the so -called PEC of the armor would bring to the country if it becomes law. The proposal for amendment to the Constitution (PEC) has recently been approved by the House of Representatives and is now for consideration by the Senate Constitution and Justice Commission.
In the assessment of delegates, besides not strengthening democracy, the armor PEC strengthens impunity. The criticism came to public through a note from the National Association of Federal Police Delegates (ADPF), released on Friday (19).
“The proposal represents a serious institutional setback, by weakening the advances made with Constitutional Amendment No. 35/2001 and reopening space for scenarios of impunity. In practice, Federal Police operations involving parliamentarians are at risk of becoming innocuous, as the beginning of criminal proceedings will depend on the authorization of their legislative houses,” the note says.
According to the delegates, “such a measure compromises transparency, weakens the fight against crime and hurts the principle of equality of all before the law”.

Also according to the entity, unrestricted political control over investigations involving deputies and senators threatens the balance between the powers of the Republic, besides severely limiting the performance of the organs of criminal prosecution.
“Federal Police Delegates reaffirm that Parliament is the legitimate space for major national debates. However, they point out that the demands of society and the strengthening of democracy must prevail over any initiative that creates unjustifiable privileges,” the note adds.
