The Federal Police (PF) asked minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), this Wednesday (17), for more time to deliver the medical examination of General Augusto Heleno, former minister of the Institutional Security Office (GSI) of the government of former president Jair Bolsonaro.
The expertise was determined by the minister to inform the defense’s request for Augusto Heleno to serve humanitarian house arrest. According to the defense, the general is 78 years old and has serious health problems.
In a letter sent to Moraes, the PF asked that the deadline for completing the work, which ends this Wednesday, be extended until December 26th.
According to the corporation, the general’s defense presented new documents on the eve of the examination, which was carried out on Friday (12), and more time is needed to complete the final report.
“The responsible medical expert indicated the need for more time for the detailed analysis of new documents and questions presented by the defense on the eve of the investigation”, explained the PF in the request.
Sentenced to 21 years in prison in the coup plot, Heleno has been in prison since November 25, when he began serving his sentence. He is held in a room at the Planalto Military Command (CMP), in Brasília.
The expertise was determined after the defense denied that Heleno had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s since 2018, when he was part of Jair Bolsonaro’s government. According to the defense, the diagnosis was made at the beginning of 2025.
The controversy occurred because the general reportedly said that he began to present the cognitive problem in 2018. The report occurred during the criminal examination before starting to serve his sentence.
It will be up to the minister to authorize house arrest or not. There is no deadline for decision.
