The Federal Police (PF) arrested, this Thursday (24), two men with R$ 500 thousand in cash during action against electoral crimes, in the neighborhood of Icaraí, in Niterói, one of the two municipalities in Rio de Janeiro where there will be a second round next Sunday (27).
According to the PF, the money was found inside a backpack inside a vehicle for the exclusive use of the Rio de Janeiro Highway Department. Suspicions are that the amount would be used to commit electoral corruption. In addition to the money, the PF reported that they found a 38-caliber revolver with five rounds of ammunition, which also resulted in the suspects being charged with the crime of illegal possession of a firearm.
The prisoners, the vehicle and the seized valuables were sent to the PF Regional Superintendence in Rio de Janeiro for further investigations, as part of a police investigation established to investigate the practice of electoral corruption, money laundering and criminal organization.
The action was developed by the PF’s Group to Combat Electoral Crimes in Rio de Janeiro (GET) and had the support of federal police officers from the Drug Enforcement Office and the Human Rights and Institutional Defense Office.
To date, the PF has seized, in Rio de Janeiro, around R$4,565,040 in cash in actions to combat electoral corruption this year 2024.
