PF and ICMBio seize 30 tons of irregular fishing in Rio

The Federal Police (PF) and the inspection team of the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio) seized 30 tons of mackerel, caught irregularly in the Marine Extractive Reserve of Arraial do Cabo, in the state of Rio de Janeiro.PF and ICMBio seize 30 tons of irregular fishing in Rio

According to the PF, a fine of R$ 1.2 million was imposed, in addition to the seizure of the vessel, the fishing net and the fish. The assessed person will respond administratively and criminally for the infraction.

The 30 tons of fish, seized this Saturday (9) afternoon, were donated to the Sesc/Mesa Brasil project, and should be distributed to institutions registered in the municipalities of Arraial do Cabo, Búzios, Cabo Frio, São Pedro da Aldeia and Macaé.

The seizure took place within the scope of Operation Camarão, and the donation had logistical support from the municipal governments of Arraial do Cabo and Macaé and the Association of the Marine Extractive Reserve of Arraial do Cabo.

The PF informed that it will continue to carry out inspection actions throughout the closed season, when fishing is suspended for the reproduction and preservation of marine species.
