President Gustavo Petro referred to the price of meat in Colombia, which, according to the president, has increased because the “oligopoly” of the refrigerators does not allow farmers to market their products. Therefore, he pointed out that it is important that all regions of the country return to municipal slaughterhouses.
(Government presented the bases of the National Development Plan 2022-2026).
“Colombia cannot be left in the hands of a meat refrigeration monopoly, that point has been reached because Invima ended the figure of the municipal slaughterhouse, we must turn back”, Petro said during the presentation of the report on his first 100 days in government.
For the president, the figure of the slaughterhouses would end the monopolies that affect the price of meat in the country. “Today the internal price of meat has risen, not because it costs more, but because they have matched the international price paid to exporters of live cattle and the product of that is hunger in Colombia,” he said.
(Economic challenges faced by the Government in its first 100 days).
And he added: “Monopoly in the transformation of meat for sale to the public (…) It is speculation and it occurs because there is a monopoly, more precisely an oligopoly in the transformation of cattle into meat for sale to the public and this it is eliminated if it is democratized”.
According to Petro, the Invimathen, you have to “play the role of democratizer of the economy and not of concentrator of the Colombian economy”.
