AREQUIPA, Peru – The Government of Gustavo Petro sent more than 10 tons of solidarity aid to the Cuban regime this Saturday on a Colombian Air Force plane.
A report from the state agency Latin Press indicates that the aid is intended to alleviate the worsening of the existing crisis on the Island, especially after the damage caused by recent natural disasters.
The aircraft arrived in Cuba loaded with non-perishable food, medicines and other electrical supplies collected by groups sympathetic to Castroism that had the support of the Colombian Communist Party, the Foreign Ministry, Congress and also the Government.
The Colombian vice chancellor, Jorge Rojas, thanked Cuba for the “constant support” “in the search for peace in Colombia” and announced the preparation of a second solidarity charge for the beginning of 2025.
From the Island, the dictator Miguel Díaz-Canel dedicated in X (formerly Twitter) a message to President Petro.
“Our people thank you for your support, solidarity and personal involvement so that Cuba is excluded from the spurious US list of alleged state sponsors of terrorism. “You are an example of Latin American and Caribbean unity,” the president wrote.
Donations have become vital support for Cuba in the face of its impoverished national economy.
In less than a month, Cuba recently suffered the scourge of hurricanes Oscar, in the eastern zone, and Rafael, by the westwhich was combined with several earthquakes and the collapse of the National Electric Service.
The aid from Colombia is the second that the regime has received in the last seven days. A shipment of 24 tons of humanitarian aid from the International Red Cross and Red Crescent arrived by air to Havana for the victims of Cyclone Rafael.
The donation, coming from the warehouses of these organizations in Panama and destined for those affected in the province of Artemisa, included solar lamps, hygiene productskitchen items and water purification tablets.
