PetroPerú Union warns about cessation of operations in Talara: "It puts at risk the perception of royalties and oil canon"

He PetroPerú Administrative Workers Union (STAPP) spoke about the urgent situation that Talaralocated in the region of Piura. Through a statement to the public, the STAPP warned of the possible serious damage that could be caused by a possible cessation of operations in Lot Z-69.

As indicated in their statement, the interruption of the extraction of 3,200 barrels of oil diaries and 20 MMSPC of gas a day “would further aggravate the local economy, generating a severe impact on the economy of Talara and the region”.

“This scenario puts at risk the perception of royalties and oil canons, in addition to the loss of more than 500 jobs, both direct and indirect, in the La Brea and Negritos areas,” warns the STAPP statement.

Along the same lines, the union expressed its concern about the deep economic crisis they are going through and that an action such as the cessation of operations would affect millions of families and regional development.

STAPP demand that the Government of José Jerí take measures

Along the same lines, the workers’ union demanded from the Government of José Jerí to take the necessary actions to avoid the cessation of operations. Likewise, they urged the Ministry of Energy and Mines and the Minister of Economy to issue the supreme decree that provides for the extension of the validity of the License Contract for the Exploitation of Hydrocarbons of Lot Z-69.

“It is essential to guarantee the continuity of this operation, which is transcendental for the economy of the province of Talara, especially after the stoppage of the operation of Lot VI and the economic and job losses.

Furthermore, STAPP criticized the government for its inaction and lack of decision and timely actions that aggravate the social and economic situation in the region. “It is a time of present with responsibility and commitment to protect the well-being of workers and the entire community,” they expressed.
