“The current crisis forces us to follow the example of countries like Colombia and Brazil, where state companies have mixed capital. This implies allowing the participation of private investment, which accepts the risk, as long as it is guaranteed that management will remain free of political influences,” he told this newspaper.
Likewise, he highlighted the importance of selling assets that Petroperú does not need. As reported in Perú21, the oil company owns at least 60 properties that could be sold to generate income. The SNMPE representative also considered the creation of a restructuring plan for the state company to be essential.
On the other hand, the former director of Petroperú, Pedro Gamio, stated that the company “is in intensive care” and attributed much of its situation to political interference. “Political interference has caused considerable damage. Petroperú has assumed expenses, such as the pension judgments of Law 20530, that correspond to other State entities. He has even financed renovations to the Palace. The company has been used like a piñata, until the time came when it couldn’t take it anymore,” he said in an interview with Canal N.
PLEASE NOTE
Pedro Gamio revealed that he was asked if he could continue to be part of the board of directors, and that he is part of a shortlist that has been evaluated within the Shareholders’ Meeting.
