Petroperú: Government defines new board this week

The Minister of Economy and Finance, Denisse Miralles, assured that during this week the change of Petroperú’s board of directors will be made official.

“The profile of the candidates who must take charge of the management of the company has been very conscientiously evaluated; it has taken a few days because it is necessary for them to have an aligned vision of what this government wants from this company. This is a company for all Peruvians that must be self-sustainable, generate income and not put the fiscal sustainability of the country at risk,” said the minister.

During a meeting with business associations, Miralles announced that this week, together with the Minister of Energy and Mines, Luis Bravo de la Cruz, and President José Jerí, they will define the new members of the board.

Hours before these statements by the head of the MEF, Premier Ernesto Álvarez had announced the restructuring of the state company and the total change of its board of directors.

The prime minister explained that the Executive considers that Petroperú can no longer continue spending more State resources on an activity that is no longer profitable.

Miralles indicated that his portfolio has been preparing an emergency tax efficiency decree to prioritize spending on projects with tangible impact and limit those that are not essential and that will allow savings of about 1,200 million soles in the next two months.

The minister also pointed out that the Government authorized a transfer of 40 million soles to the Prosecutor’s Office to strengthen its operational and logistical capacity in the fight against organized crime.
