Petroperú: Confiep expresses its concern about the future board of directors of the state-owned company

The business associations associated with CONFIEP expressed their total disagreement with the possible decision by President Dina Boluarte to dismiss the current board of directors of Petroperú to appoint, once again, officials who have been linked to the company and whose performance has been poor and who have even been questioned on issues of suitability and transparency.

At the time, the business sector welcomed the appointment of an independent board of directors with highly qualified officials to implement changes to make the company financially viable.

“We believe that the current board has been carrying out its duties with absolute honesty and transparency. An abrupt decision to change the board of the state-owned company, due to the fact that the worrying financial situation of Petroperú has been made transparent, undermines the independent governance of any company,” Confiep said in a statement.

The institution representing business associations stated that if this provision were to be implemented, it would go against the message of July 28, in which the President emphasized the importance of having the best professionals in the country’s key institutions.

Finally, these changes could have repercussions on the country’s risk classification, making credit more expensive for all Peruvians. It is clear to all Peruvians that Petroperú urgently needs to undergo financial restructuring, have adequate governance and establish the necessary regulations to strengthen the organization.
