Petrobras and Vale signed a contract to supply diesel to the mining company’s operations in Minas Gerais. The agreement provides for the supply of S10 diesel, produced by the company, with the addition of the mandatory portion of biodiesel, currently at 15%.
The contract also provides for low-carbon business development opportunities, such as the possibility of purchasing and selling diesel R (diesel with renewable content) and possible negotiations for the supply of HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil).
Since 2023, the two companies have been working in business partnerships to develop low-carbon solutions. In 2024, an agreement was established for cooperation, including testing R5 diesel (5% renewable content, in addition to the mandatory 15% biodiesel) and bunker with 24% renewable portion.
The commercial partnership with Vale is part of Petrobras’ strategy of getting closer to end consumers of its products.
“Establishing this direct contact allows the company to better understand consumer needs and be more assertive in building solutions that generate value for customers and society,” said the president of Petrobras, Magda Chambriard.
For her, “by offering high-performance fuels, capable of collaborating with companies’ decarbonization goals, Petrobras improves its logistics structure and capacity to produce for internationally relevant customers”.
“We are very pleased to strengthen our partnership with Petrobras, which generates value for both companies and for Brazil. This contract consolidates a relationship of trust and creates space for us to explore, together, innovative solutions that contribute to making our operations increasingly efficient and sustainable”, said Vale’s CEO, Gustavo Pimenta. “It is another step that reinforces our long-term vision with the decarbonization of Vale’s operations, thus taking advantage of Brazil’s competitive advantage in renewable fuels,” he added.
