Petrobras reduces the sales price of natural gas to distributors by 7.8%

Petrobras reduces the sales price of natural gas to distributors by 7.8%

Petrobras reported, this Tuesday (27), that the sales prices of the natural gas molecule to distributors will have an average reduction of around 7.8% compared to the previous quarter. The new values come into force on February 1st. Petrobras reduces the sales price of natural gas to distributors by 7.8%

How this reduction will be felt by the end consumer will depend on other factors, such as transportation costs, taxes and profit margins of distributors and resellers.

The update does not impact the price of cooking gas (LPG)packaged in cylinders or sold in bulk. Vehicle natural gas (CNG) is affected.

Since December 2022, the average price of the molecule sold to distributors has accumulated a reduction of around 38%including the effect of the February reduction, as reported by the company.

The reduction announced today takes into account the portion indexed to Henry Hub, a reference for the natural gas market in the United States, which came into effect at the beginning of 2026, for distributors who opted for this indexation alternative.

In addition to the Henry Hub variation, according to Petrobras, contracts for the sale of natural gas to distributors provide for quarterly updates of the portion of the price related to the gas molecule, considering fluctuations in oil on the international market and the real/dollar exchange rate (R$/US$).

“For the quarter starting in February 2026, considering the variation in Brent oil, Henry Hub, the exchange rate and the weighting of volumes contracted by distributors with Petrobras, the combined effect of these references will result in an average price reduction for the molecule portion of around 7.8%”, the company announced.

Pricing

The company highlights that the effective final price variations per distributor will depend on the products contracted and the volumes actually withdrawn, considering the premiums created by Petrobras from 2024 onwards: the performance premium and the demand incentive premium. The premiums make it possible to reduce the price depending on the volumes withdrawn.

The final price of natural gas to the consumer, according to Petrobras, is not determined solely by the company’s selling price of the moleculebut also due to the cost of transportation to the distributor, each distributor’s supply portfolio, as well as their margins and federal and state taxes. In the case of Vehicle Natural Gas (NGV), it still depends on resale stations.

Petrobras also emphasizes that consumer tariffs are approved by state regulatory agencies, in accordance with specific legislation and regulations.
