THE Petrobras announced this Monday (20) that it will reduce the price of A gasoline sold to distributors by 4.9%. The new price comes into effect from this Tuesday (21).
Gasoline A is the pure fuel that leaves refineries and is mixed with ethanol by distributors, so that it can be sold to the end consumer at retail stations.
With the reduction, Petrobras’ average selling price to distributors will be, on average, R$2.71 per liter, a reduction of R$0.14 per liter.

Second reduction in 2025
This is the second price drop promoted by the state-owned company in 2025. On June 3, Petrobras had already reduced the value by 5.6%. Year-to-date, the reduction amounts to R$0.31 per liter, a decline of 10.3%.
In the statement that announced the change in values, the company mentions that, since December 2022, the drop in the price of gasoline has reached R$0.36 ─ a decrease of 22.4%, already considering inflation during the period.
Petrobras’ movement should represent relief in the country’s inflation, since fuel has the greatest weight in the Broad National Consumer Price Index (IPCA), an indicator that calculates official inflation.
Despite being the largest producer of fuel in the country, the price of gasoline at the pumps does not depend solely on Petrobras. After the product is sold to distributors, it is influenced by other costs, such as shipping, mixing with ethanol, tax collection and the service station’s profit margin.
Diesel
Petrobras informed that the price of diesel sold to distributors will not change. Since March this year, there have been three reductions in diesel oil, and the fuel has seen a decline of 35.9% since the end of 2022.
