Petrobras has extended the registration deadline for the public selection Nature-Based Solutions for Adaptation and Climate Resilience in Cities until November 11th. The notice will allocate R$21 million to socio-environmental projects in the states of São Paulo and Rio Grande do Sul.
The initiative is unprecedented and aimed at combating climate change in urban areas, with the intention of strengthening the resilience of vulnerable cities and communities. The focus is to support green and blue infrastructures and community technologies that contribute to mitigating climate impacts, restoring ecosystems and stimulating the bioeconomy.
Projects will be prioritized in the cities of Canoas, Esteio, Porto Alegre, Gravataí, Viamão, Novo Hamburgo and São Leopoldo, in Rio Grande do Sul. In São Paulo, the notice covers the municipalities of Ubatuba, Caraguatatuba, Ilhabela, São Sebastião, Bertioga and Guarujá. Proposals can act in an expanded manner, in addition to the prioritized municipalities, as long as they are in the same river basin
According to the executive manager of Social Responsibility at Petrobras, José Maria Rangel, the notice expands the company’s operations in the face of the climate crisis. “We are structuring a front dedicated to nature-based solutions, with the potential to generate gains in conservation, restoration and urban resilience”, he states.
The action reinforces the company’s commitment to impactful socio-environmental investments and adapting cities to extreme weather events.
