Petrobras ended 2025 with the largest oil and gas production in its history, with almost 3 million barrels per daydriven by the advance of the pre-salt and the entry of new platforms.
The record operational performance also supported a jump in exports, which reached the highest annual volume ever recorded by the state-owned company.
According to data released this Tuesday (10), the company easily exceeded its production targets and managed to renew reserves even in a year marked by scheduled maintenance shutdowns and the natural decline of mature fields.
>> Main production numbers in 2025:
- Own average annual production: 2.99 million barrels of oil equivalent (boe) per day (+11%)
- Total production in the 4th quarter: 3.081 million boe per day
- Increase in the 4th quarter: +18.6% compared to the fourth quarter of 2024
- Quarterly drop: -1.1% compared to the third quarter of 2025
- Pre-salt production: 82% of the total in the 4th quarter
- Pre-salt in 2025: 2.45 million boe per day (+11.4%)
- Búzios Field: more than 1 million barrels per day (bpd) in October
- Installed capacity in Búzios: around 1.15 million bpd
THE Petrobras explained that the slight decline in the fourth quarter compared to the previous period was mainly caused by maintenance stoppages on platforms in the Campos Basin, such as Marlim and Voador. The impact was partially offset by the increase in capacity of the Floating Production, Storage and Transfer (FPSO) units Almirante Tamandaré and Marechal Duque de Caxias, in the Santos Basin.
The Almirante Tamandaré unit, the largest platform ever installed in the country, produces around 240 thousand barrels per day. The P-79 platform, which arrived at the Búzios field this week, is expected to add another 180,000 barrels per day to the state-owned company’s capacity.

Reservations on the rise
Even with record production, the company recorded the best performance in a decade in replenishing reserves:
- Reserves added in 2025: 1.7 billion boe
- Reserve Replacement Ratio (IRR): 175%
- Relationship between proven reserves and production: 12.5 years
Exports also hit records
The advance in production was directly reflected in foreign oil sales, which consolidated 2025 as a historic year for Petrobras and for the Brazilian trade balance.
- Average exports in 2025: 765 thousand barrels/day
- Annual growth: +27%
- Peak in the 4th quarter: around 1 million barrels/day
China maintained its position as the main destination for Brazilian oil. In the fourth quarter, India began to compete with Europe for second place, with 12% of exported volume, compared to 13% for European countries.
In a note, Petrobras stated that the records are the result of gains in operational efficiency, logistics optimization and the diversification of the customer portfolio in the international market.
