President Gustavo Petro will not attend the funeral of Miguel Uribe Turbayformer senator and former councilor of Bogotá, who died on August 11 in a tragic incident that has shocked the country. As expressed by the DAPPRE (Administrative Department of the Presidency), the president will not participate in the funeral and in his replacement he will attend Vice President France Márquez.

The president’s absence has generated various reactions in the political scene, especially for the tensions that Petro and Uribe Turbay historically maintained, who at the time was one of the most ferrous opponents of his management in the Mayor’s Office of Bogotá and in the national government. Some sectors consider that their non -assistance responds more to political differences than to agenda reasons.
The funeral of Miguel Uribe Turbay will take place in the National Capitol, where a burning camera will be installed so that friends, family, congressmen and citizens can pay tribute. Subsequently, a religious ceremony will be held before his funeral.
In social networks, several public figures have lamented the president’s absence, remembering that, despite the differences, the political tradition in Colombia has been to show gestures of respect in moments of national grief.
Miguel Uribe Turbay, 37, was grandson of former president Julio César Turbay and stood out for his defense of security policies, fight against corruption and criticism of the current government. His death leaves a significant void in the young policy of the country.
Meanwhile, the Uribe family has reiterated that the funeral honors will be open to the public and that they expect wide assistance from all political sectors, in a gesture of reconciliation and unity.
