The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, stated this Tuesday the 27th that the United States must return Nicolás Maduro to Venezuela so that he can be tried by a court in that country, and criticized the military attack on January 3 against Caracas, in which the president was captured.
“They have to return him (Nicolás Maduro) and have him judged by a Venezuelan court, not an American one,” Petro said. at an event in Bogotá, where he argued that Latin America has a different conception of justice compared to the Anglo-Saxon and European tradition.
Petro, who is scheduled to meet with the president of the United States, Donald Trump, on February 3 at the White House, added that “bombing Caracas, Bolívar’s homeland, that is not an act against Maduro” but against the country.

Approved temporary visa
The US Government granted a special entry permit for five days, which will allow the Colombian president and his entourage to enter without incident, despite the fact that the head of state’s visa had been suspended.
The authorization, of an exceptional and temporary nature, was granted to guarantee compliance with the official agenda that includes, in addition to the meeting with Trump, meetings at the Organization of American States, with members of the Colombian community residing in the United States and participation in academic settings, including university discussions and appointments with analysis and thought centers.
Petro’s visit comes after a year of tensions and criticism with the US Administration, so it is expected that relations between both leaders will be sought and issues such as the fight against drug trafficking, regional security or bilateral trade will be discussed.
