Petro regrets the silence of the OAS in the face of US aggression in the Caribbean

The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, regretted that governments of Latin America and the Caribbean, including the OAS, have not spoken out against the United States attacks on vessels in the Caribbean and the Pacific, after the United Nations (UN) accused Donald Trump’s Administration of “violating international law” through such operations.

The Colombian dignitary does not understand why there is no reaction, “if the Trump government is violating international law by attacking people with immense disproportion of force in the Caribbean Sea, that is, they are extrajudicial executions as the UN says,” said President Petro on the social network X.

Next, the question was asked: «why doesn’t the OAS meet to study this problem of systematic violation of Human Rights in the Caribbean?; Why are there no precautionary measures from the human rights commission in Washington? Fear of being equal in the American context?; What is the reason for the silence of progressivism and governments? Is the American Human Rights Convention signed by the US unilateral? Or does it only serve against Latin American and Caribbean states and is it not American?

Finally, the Colombian head of state said: “either we are a continent of sovereign nations, or we are a continent colonized by an empire.”

It should be noted that this Friday, October 31, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turkdeclared that the attacks carried out by the United States against vessels in the Caribbean and the Pacific, supposedly linked to drug trafficking, violate international human rights law.

Through a release Türk asserted that these attacks They are carried out in circumstances that have no justification in international law.

In this regard, the Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil He thanked, on behalf of President Nicolás Maduro, that the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, had “finally condemned the United States military attacks in the Caribbean.”
