Petro questions transportation prices and attacks Asocapitales

After last Friday asocapitals announced a 12.53% rise in the prices of public transport in the main cities of the country, which corresponds to the inflation data as of November, President Gustavo Petro has expressed his disagreement with this increase and since the weekend has been criticizing the rise in rates, which would begin to apply from 2023.

(This is what public transport will raise in the country’s cities).

For the president, although the driver’s salary will impact production costs, “The simple fact that diesel does not rise in price means that the transport rate cannot be indexed to the minimum wage or to inflation.”

In other words, President Petro asked not to raise bus fares, arguing that diesel did not rise in price.

This is what President Petro wrote on his Twitter account, where he also spoke of “unnecessary rents” that would be currently being transferred to public transport entrepreneurs, which would be shooting up the price of tickets.

(For how many tickets will the transportation assistance reach in 2023?).

“If they index the prices of mass public transport to the current rate of inflation when several of its costs remain constant or decrease in real price, such as diesel, it means that they are transferring unnecessary income to the owners of public transport,” added.

For his part, for asocapitalsthe decision was made by mutual agreement between the main mayors considering the need for an increase to sustain the massive transportation systems of the cities and that this increase is less than 16% of the minimum wage for next year, announced by the National government.

“We consider this decision the most consistent and fair with users, taking into account the current situation and the economic situation that the country and the region are going through, becoming a relief for the pockets of the inhabitants of our capitals”, indicated Asocapitales, through a statement last week.
