From Haiti, where he is carrying out an official visit to strengthen bilateral relations, The president of Colombia Gustavo Petro criticized the immigration policies promoted by the president of the United States, Donald Trump.
During his speech, The Colombian president urged the countries of the region to unite and challenge the exclusive vision of the United States.
“They don’t want Venezuelans, they don’t want Puerto Ricans, they don’t want Colombians, so let’s leave them alone for a while, Let’s see how they do. I believe that we are the ones who are going to help each other, and that those who kick us out are going to be left alone. And the more alone, the poorer, the more decadent, the more alone they think they are the superior race, the more they are going to become Nazis,” said Petro.
The president compared the current situation with the historical events that marked the rise of Nazism in Europe. According to Petro, Exclusion and isolation can lead to the adoption of dangerous and authoritarian ideologies.
“What happened in the history of the Nazis is going to happen. A humanity is going to appear. Back then, in ’36, in ’45, that humanity began with the same European people: Soviets, communists, socialists, Christians, republicans, democrats. People who could not bear the indignity in their hearts at seeing humanity itself taken to the concentration camps to be killed, stopped and died by the millions, but accompanied by red and white and black armies. Peasant boys from Ohio, from the fields of Wisconsin, from Texas, from the United States, also went to die for freedom, and they are buried there,” the president added.

It is not the first time that Petro criticizes Trump. The head of state also questioned the American president’s inauguration speech, especially for ensuring that he did not need Latin America.
“The US is not going towards the vanguard of the world, but rather towards the rear. Europe will decide whether to follow the rearguard. “You just have to raise your arm with the Nazi salute, like Elon Musk did,” the president sentenced.
