Petro orders its ambassador to strengthen ties with Venezuela

Colombia ready to reopen consulates in Venezuela

The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, ordered the designated ambassador to Venezuela, Mario Benedetti, to consolidate diplomatic and friendly relations with Caracas, for the well-being of their peoples.

During an act that took place in the neighboring country, Petro entrusted the Colombian official with renewing the brotherhood between the two peoples.

“Ambassador, go and see how the Colombian house is, over there,” Petro said. “There are 16 consulates that need to be filled, we have talked about people with diplomatic careers, all of them, all 16. We have to repair the damage to houses and the damage to hearts. First. So that no one ever thinks that between Venezuela and Colombia there has to be a conflict, a war or something like that, “Petro said at the ceremony, according to local media.

He stressed that the rupture of relations between Colombia and Venezuela was “a mistake”.

Regarding the Colombians and Venezuelans who are used to crossing the border between the two countries, he maintained that these citizens have already benefited from the normalization of diplomatic relations, “because they will not need the trails to be able to cross.”
For his part, Ambassador Benedetti indicated that he will work on trade and border security.

“As ambassador of Colombia in Venezuela. We will work to normalize relations between two sister countries. Trade, border security, and fraternal ties with our neighbor will be a priority,” he said.
