The Colombian president Gustavo Petro was pointed out by Leopoldo López to become “the first international spokesperson in support of the dictatorship of Nicolás Maduro.” The Venezuelan opponent said that this must have monetary motivations or that it is part of a “criminal structure” led by Nicolás Maduro
The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, responded this Monday to the insinuations made by the Venezuelan opponent Leopoldo López, who linked him to “criminal structures” of drug trafficking that – he said – is led by Nicolás Maduro.
“Leopoldo López’s attempt to link me with drug trafficking structures is criminal and arbitrary,” wrote Petro in his account on the social network X, where he also told him to “stop being a jerk.”
Earlier, López accused Petro of becoming “the first international spokesperson in support of the dictatorship of Nicolás Maduro,” and said that this must have monetary motivations or is part of that “criminal structure.”

The Colombian president stressed that his only source of income comes from his salary and he does not have any accounts or assets abroad. «My only asset is the house that I built for my children, finished before I became mayor, I owe money to the bank from it and no one lives in it. “I don’t have any more assets either in Colombia or outside the country, so stop being a jerk.”
Leopoldo answers him again
In conversation with Venezuelan journalists, which was happening at that time, Leopoldo López responded just after Gustavo Petro’s message was published. «He has portrayed himself with Maduro, he has been assuming the narrative and defense of Maduro and he must do this out of some type of interest in maintaining that criminal structure. Petro knows very well what drug trafficking and Colombian terrorist groups and their collaboration with Venezuela mean, because this is information that has been accumulating since the beginning of the century, by Colombian security agencies.
López insisted that the FARC and the ELN used Venezuelan territory and have participated in extractive activities. «Colombia knows everything there is to know. And he, as president of Colombia, also knows it. “That he defends Maduro is because there is a common interest.”
