“President Gustavo Petro sends his greetings and he has asked that the doors of his house be opened for all of you this Christmas“, Petro’s chief of staff, Laura Sarabia, told the guests, who reaffirmed the “commitment” of the president “for continuing to work for a prosperous and peaceful Colombia“.
The event, which took place in the Plaza de Armas in front of the president’s residence, was attended by the Mayor of Bogotá, Claudia López, who claimed that “In Bogotá we are all a family, we are all the same, we all take care of ourselves and we love each other with a lot of solidarity“.

“To you, who are the best inhabitants of Bogotá, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year“said the mayor.
Petro, however, did not attend the event because he is spending the day with his family.
The president asked that “have a great dinner with you and that we have this detail of sharing the government of change that you are“, the chief of staff told the street inhabitants who attended.

It is a custom that Petro had already done when he was mayor of Bogotáand that intends to show the closeness of the president with this population, who was now able to enjoy a dinner based on suckling pig and clothing and shoe kits, “as a commitment to dignify the life of this population that has historically been discriminated against“.
The day featured a play, artists such as Juan Carlos Celedon and a choir to sing Christmas carols and pray the novena, a very Colombian tradition in which families come together to share, eat and pray.
