Before the active circulation of the yellow fever virus in several regions of the country, the national government declared the state of health emergency throughout the Colombian territory. The measure aims to contain its propagation and mitigate its possible effects on public health.

Within the framework of this situation, President Gustavo Petro reiterated the call to citizens to vaccinate and He raised a period of time in which this objective is expected to be met.
“In two months the entire Colombian population must be vaccinated against yellow fever. We must do so and our health system must guarantee it,”the president said through his X account.
In that sense, Petro recalled that, unlike Covid, this virus is transmitted through mosquito bite, but is mortal in 50%. “Prevention is fundamental. The vaccine exists and we have it”, added.

The head of state also emphasized which people should be in the first rows for vaccination, including soldiers, teachers and members of the health force. He also pointed out that there will be a Unified Command Post (PMU) oriented to explore the measures around this emergency.
Along the same line, he announced that in the next Council of Ministers, which would be transmitted by television, the details of the virus and the campaign for the Colombian life that the Government is carrying out will be explained.
